Re-visiting an old technique!

Today is such an wonderful day - the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog is finally released. I will have the link up and running later today.

Also, in my news, lol,  is the big launch party on June 3rd at the Glynnmill Inn for invited guests!  60 frenzied  Stampin' Up!  ladies will descend on Corner Brook for an evening of Make and takes and demonstrations!  There will be prizes and displays and I'm beyond excited! 

 

Today's post is one I actually forgot to share with you!  I am re-visiting a technique I taught last year called "Faux Patina"!   Have a look!

 

I used Blackberry Bliss card stock and Gold Foil to give this card a very special look.  The technique of Faux Patina gives depth and beauty and a wow factor of 10.  I used Gorgeous Grunge and gold embossing powder to create the spots. 

 

Here is a close up of the art piece.  This was done on Very Vanilla card stock and sponged with Crumb Cake, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy.  What wonderful colors that normally would not work together, but done this way ooh so beautiful.

Faux Patina Technique!

Good Day Everyone!

Today is so windy here in Corner Brook.  It is a lovely day but the wind has kicked up and you could blow away here.  But I have some windows open to the fresh air and enjoying every minute of it.  Can't wait to get my bench out to put on the porch so I can sit out and have my Espresso!

Some of my readers commented on the events of yesterday and suggested that I may have exaggerated some of the facts.  I am here to tell you on a stack of bibles, there was no fabrication.  This happens every year and is the complete truth.  Thank you for your concern over my literary ethics.

Now on to more interesting things.

 I have finished my class for this up coming Sunday here at 25 Massey Drive at 1:00pm.  Cost for this class is $12.00 or FREE with a $25.00 order.  

 I am offering a Mother's day Telescoping card (which you have already seen).  There is, of course, a Father's Day card.  I  used the stamp Packed for Dad.  This stamp is in the Occasions Mini (only until the end of this month though) and an Anniversary/Birthday card using the Faux Patina Technique.

I used the retired accessory Twill Tape.  Can't use ribbon on a man card can you!  It makes it too girly lol!  What do you think?

This is a close up of the 3D aspect of the card.  It's simple but fun to vintage up this card.  Can't wait for the class!

Now the next picture is of the Faux Patina Technique.  I had a lot of fun making this card and yes once again - Butterflies.  It really nice to see this technique take shape.  I hope the ladies like it because I can see this one being done on many more cards or projects.  It almost looks like oxidized metal.  Love it! 

Is this not gojus?  OMG you have to see it IRL.  (Colleen hates it when I use computer speak tee hee.)

My son and Daughter in Law have an Anniversary coming up and usually around this time of the year I get REALLY busy and don't get a card in the mail on time. This year I am on top of things. Apparently I am good at making them, just not so great at getting them in the mail.

And to round off the class, this beauty.  I know that you have seen it but I have to show you again and to brag just a little bit.  I opened up my e-mail this morning and found this comment from Buggainok on Splitcoast stampers.  It made my week I can tell you.  Here is the link and I hope this doesn't sound like I am bragging and feeling full of myself but I just had to share this comment.

Dusting off an Old Technique!

Good day everyone!

Well I am having so much fun this week getting ready for my Annual Hostess Appreciation Christmas Party.  I have 25 extra special Christmas Cards made (which I can't show you cause everyone looks at this blog) and I am working steadily on the handmade Christmas gifts I usually give out.  Also getting the Hostess Basket of goodies ready and items for my prize patrol.  Games to set up, Make and take's to design and that's just this week.   OMG!  It's going to be AWESOME!!!

But I did manage to find time to dust off an old Technique that I haven't done in about 4 years.  That's right,  I said 4 years.  I did this technique when I first became a demonstrator and you know how it is, you find other things to play with. 

At this time of the year I love to emboss everything in sight with either gold or silver (and now the new Pewter embossing powder).  Something about the shine screams Christmas to me.  Also I love, love, love to make Christmas Cards.  I think it is my fav time of the year to be making cards.

So today's share is done using the polished stone Technique.  I just finished the card and tomorrow I will post the photo tutorial.  So drop back for a quick look won't you?

Faux Mother of Pearl revealed!

Hello, everyone!

If you are joining Kathy's blog for the first time, she's knee-deep in camping and wedding preparations, so I'm her pitch-hitter . . . and sister . . . Colleen.

At the end of my last post, I mentioned that my husband made a casual comment when he saw my last card . . . the "Man" card (see previous posting).  His comment was, "Why did you go to the trouble of making such a pretty background and then cover it up with stamped images?"  Okay, that's not word for word what he said (I don't think "stamped images" is in his vocabulary), but it's the general idea.  So, that got me to thinking, and I ended up making my mother a birthday card that started with a piece of Faux Mother of Pearl.

I mean that literally, by the way.  I started with a piece of cardstock left over from the last card, and slowly added to it bit by bit until I ended up with this:

I started with a piece of Basic Black cardstock cut at 8 1/2" by 5 1/2", and scored at 4 1/4".  (I've typed that so often lately I think I could type it in my sleep. Hmmm, might be time for another shape for the next card.  lol)  I then cut a piece of Pretty In Pink cardstock 5 1/4" by 4", and used the Finial Press Textured Embossing folder (page 219 in the Idea Book & Catalogue [IBC]) to fancy it up.

Next I cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock 3" by 4 1/4" and a piece of Brushed Gold cardstock (page 181 in the IBC) slightly smaller.  On two sides I used Snail Adhesive (page 206) to adhere two scrap pieces of Chantilly Crochet Trim (page 194).  (Why use a long piece when only a bit of it is going to show?  I like to think of myself as frugal, rather than cheap!  lol)

Then I used Black Emboss Powder (page 201) to emboss an image from the Bliss stamp set (sorry, no longer available but the Style Beautiful stamp set [page 140] or any other large image would work well) onto the Glossy White cardstock I had altered using the Faux Mother of Pearl technique.  (See the previous posting for more details.  That will also explain the meaning behind the three colors of ink in the picture below.)  That cardstock measures 3 1/2" by 2 1/4", and is layered onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock cut slightly larger.

Lastly, I stamped the small flower from the Bliss stamp set onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock.  I inked it with Pretty In Pink ink and then went along the edges and up the middle with a Rose Red marker.  I also used a Versamarker (page 203) and Clear Emboss Powder (page 201) to "shiny-up" the image.  I finished it with a Pearl (page 198) in the center.  (The pearl I used was from the old Pretties Kit so I adhered it using a Mini Glue Dot [page 206].  The pearls in the Jewels: Basic Pearls [page 198] have adhesive on the back.)

I layered everything, and popped up the flower with a Dimensional (page 206), and, voila, a casual comment resulted in a pretty card!
